  Waterlily Tea Cup

A cup with a bit of history and a little hint of mystery. An elegant offering from 1970's Japan. Michael thinks these cups may have been produced for export or meant for use in shinchado, a green tea ceremony not commonly practiced. We love the abstracted flower design that graces one side of the cup. The petals and leaves are outlined in gold, striking against the fresh cream colored background. There's the slightest of flares along the emerald green rim. Generally the bottom of the foot is left unglazed in both Chinese and Japanese porcelain but this diminutive foot is glazed over which is a unique and unusual feature. We're so taken with this retro find, we can't help but keep a few cups to add a rich accent to our own tea table.
