Tenryu Sencha
A sophisticated, single bush sencha, hand picked in a family owned garden that is one grade better than last year's offering and the highest available. We couldn't be more pleased with ourselves or this beautiful tea, named after the Tenryu River that flows by the mountain side estate. The deep emerald stalks brew up a surprisingly delicate gold-green liquor. The soft aroma is sweet, savory and mouth watering. Notes of toasted rice quicken the appetite. Light and ephemeral with a slender body, there was a velvet texture that clung to the palate. A floral bittersweet edge rounded out the flavor profile.
Although many of our teas are limited production, we cannot guarantee future harvests of this particular sencha. With an aging teamaster and a younger generation unwilling to continue the work, the estate's future is in doubt. We're always lucky to get what we can and we hope you have a chance to try this very special tea.

Details
This Spring 2010 Harvest is a single bush, single garden Premium Grade sencha
Our Tenryu Sencha is harvested from the Yabukita tea cultivar.
The most popular of all cultivars, Yabukita trees count for more than 70% of tea grown in japan. Developed in the Abe Gun region of Shizuoka prefecture, it was registered in 1953. Because of it's high production yield and excellent balance of sweetness and brisk flavor, Yabukita has become the benchmark of Japanese tea trees.
