Asatsuyu Sencha

A unique single bush tea with a distinct flavor resembling the heartier fukamushi senchas. The aroma of the brewed tea leaves was mouthwatering, savory with a toasted sesame note. The beautiful sea green brew was robust. Rich, nutty flavors and a strong umami component gave us an almost meaty broth. Some vegetal sharpness rounded out the flavor profile. The sweetness arrived fashionably late giving us a delightful finish. Dae noted, one could almost make a meal out of this tea.

Developed in Shizuoka, Asatsuyu is the descendant of high quality seeds collected from tea trees of Uji.
Registered in 1953.
Tea producers note the difficulties in growing Asatsuyu but it's sweet and rich flavor make it a worthwhile undertaking.
