  OkuMidori Sencha
  OkuMidori Sencha

A single bush sencha from Shizuoka, Okumidori is very rare and get's little recognition. The early spring frost that wreaked havoc on many other varietals actually improved this late developing tea and it's never tasted better than now. The plants benefited from the unexpected chill and tea makers were in for a pleasant surprise. We were impressed by this unique offering and every sip was deep and full bodied. The deep steamed leaves give off a mouthwatering aroma that reminds us of chewy, Korean rice cakes. Sweet grassy layers that hadn't existed in previous years rounded out the strong umami notes. There was a lovely brightness and a crisp balance that left our palates refreshed. After the last cup, we were left with an enjoyably persistent mint finish.
This tea was so unexpected, it passed under the radar of most vendors. The low price is just the icing on an already delicious cake. While we're not hoping for another big chill next year, we're really happy to have a chance to enjoy a truly unique tea this season.
