  Hundred Year Tree 2003 & 2009 Sampler

For those who have wanted to know more about the special aging properties of the WuYi Cliff teas, this sampler is your chance to comparison taste one of our most popular varietals. From Michael's personal collection comes the 2003 Hundred Year Tree. Both flavor and aroma are deeper and richer than it's younger self with a little more spice and added layers. A trace of sourness that quickly turns to sweet is indicative of the tea's age. While the body of the Hundred Year Tree is recognizable in this older version, we're treated to more notes of plum and tobacco that blossom in the back of the throat. The chaqi is another reason for drinking aged tea and demands attention after the first few sips. Feelings of physical relaxation and well-being are typical among aged tea drinkers. Those sensitive enough will be able to feel a gradual warming throughout their bodies and other pleasant sensations.

Our 2009 Hundred Year Tree has had just the right amount of time to mature. The roast is smooth and mellow. Earthy and rich, the higher floral notes play out against a background of mineral and musk. There's a slow, leisurely buildup followed by a beautiful, citrus finish. While the chaqi is not as powerful as in an older tea, Dae finds it releases any physical tensions she has and she enjoys the flush of warmth it brings to her hands and neck. We've included it so you can perform a side by side tasting and experience for yourself the difference a year, or several, makes .
